Free Verse poem

Never have I ever needed so badly to be told that I am not invisible
Needing not for validation of my work,
but verification that the work being done is not
for Nothing

Someone to remind me that there is an active brain
a beating heart
a soul that exists that can’t be broken down
Selfishness, forcing selflessness into oblivion

Every now and then, I need a reminder that I am more
than what is perceived
More than what internal fights believe

Acknowledgment that in my absence
my presence once had meaning
Assurance that someone will remember me
and verify that at some point in time,
I was seen
